9-5ers, Do we really need to dream?

I think it was said best by Joseph Campbell when he utter the world saving words (That had been previously promised to be uttered from the lips of a child) "We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us. "

That's just what I plan to do.

Forget about the American Dream, or at least the self-indulgent, self-defeating delusion of grandeur we've all been spoon fed from birth. No my dream; our dream is different. It is one of priceless freedom and endless inspiration. It is a dream of unity and Individually. If it is a cage that we must remain in to ensure our continued self delusions of happiness; then so be it. Tell the guards they are free to go. We will thrive in these conditions. Or at least those of us with grit. After all, we are creatures of adaptation.
We have watched the evolution of the American dream mutate from the 50s exhibition of denial and ambition with "anything is possible if you put your mind to it" to the 60s flowering hope of "Through love and peace, we will overcome". But after finding that love and peace only got you laid but didn't stop wars, we became angry. Rattling the cages in our leather and Mohawks, we entered a darkened forests of discontent that did not change anything either. The midnight protests of smashed beer bottles in the streets proved ineffective. In the 90s we filled our heads with an awareness of untouchable shadows of "the man" & the illusion of instability, making little attempt (if any) at reaching that unconceivable paradise of freedom.
And now here we are in this; the Lithium/Posaic/Xanax complacency of "awe Fuck it".

If we are to change the world, escape the cage, achieve the true American dream we must WAKE UP. We sleep through our nights, dreaming of the day and then walk through our days in a gazed over sleep. No, it has been determined, once the drinks, pills, and various other vices have worn off, as I return to my cell of apathy, I will force a reboot of consciousness. I will stir the pot. It will be tasty.

And if not, it beats scratching the years into the wall.
